Review of MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation

February 11th, 2009 by Deidre

I absolutely love trying out new foundations because I feel like I am constantly on the lookout for a product that is going to make my skin look absolutely flawless and natural while still feeling comfortable for a long period of time. I’ve tried my fair share of bad foundations, so when I got my hands on MAC’s new Studio Sculpt Foundation I had extremely high hopes.

I cannot say that I am disappointed in the foundation because it really is a wonderful product. The coverage is perfect (it provides buildable medium coverage) and it feels very light and breathable on the skin. It also gives off a luminous look that helps to brighten up my face and make me look less tired (which is a huge plus in my book). When I first apply the foundation, I feel like it is the best thing in the world. It looks incredible and it feels fabulous. However that effect wanes slightly as I wear it throughout the day.

The thing I noticed about this product is that it is extremely moisturizing. This may be good for women with dry skin, but it is not necessarily perfect for those of us who have skin on the oily side of the spectrum. Most of the time when liquid foundation is applied, it dries and feels like it will stay put. With Studio Sculpt, I never felt like it would dry (and I’m only applying a little bit). In order to set the product, I made sure to dust on some finishing powder which really seemed to help soak up most of that lingering “wet” feeling.

The foundation lasts for a decent amount of time, but mid-afternoon I have noticed some slight ware on my face. Around 2:00 pm, it doesn’t look as fresh as when I put it on in the morning although the coverage overall remains good.

There really are a ton of great things about this product. It contains an SPF of 15 which will help protect your skin from ultraviolet rays even if your moisturizer doesn’t have SPF and it is also packed with Vitamins A and C. It is even water resistant and comes in a wide range of 23 colors. Also, the end result is absolutely everything I want in a foundation– luminous, natural, never dry or cakey– but I just wish it would stay that way the whole day.

It would be great to see MAC come out with the exact same product from those with oily skin. My suggestion is to try the product before you buy it if that is possible. Visit one of your local MAC stores and test it a few times to see how it will work with your skin type.
