Bare Escentuals brings the flower power
The weather in Philadelphia today is rainy and cold. In fact, it is down-right dismal out there. Mix the cloudy skies with my lack of sleep and you have one grumpy beauty blogger.
But if there is anything that can make me think of sunshine and spring, it is the new set of Buxom glosses from Bare Escentuals. Yes, the much-loved mineral makeup brand has just released the Buxom Babes Flower Girls set and I cannot tell you how much these little tubes of gloss have brightened up my life.
Let me start by saying that I really like the Buxom formula. It delivers a peppermint tingle that lasts a long time and it plumps lips ever so slightly. It never feels sticky and the gloss has a decent amount of staying power (it doesn’t just slip off your lips like some others).
The colors in the set are so feminine and pretty. They come in Rosie (a pale pastel pink), Lily (a bright cool-toned pink), Iris (sheer lavender) and Poppy (a peachy pink). The pigment is on the sheer side, so you shouldn’t expect a huge color pay out from this set. I like to think of them as a nice, shiny topping to my lipstick, although they do look lovely worn alone as well. These glosses don’t contain any shimmer, which is really refreshing, but they are high on shine. They have an almost vinyl finish which helps to make lips look smoother and fuller.
Below are the swatches (order is Lily, Rosie, Poppy and Iris):

The shades remind me of the bright pastel colors that we’ve been seeing a lot this spring. They are kind of candy-colored– soft and wispy, but still fun and energetic. The Iris shade is something you don’t often see in lip glosses and it may look frightening at first. But when you apply it, the blue-ish white color simply brightens up your natural lip color (or lipstick shade) giving a bit of a frosted finish. I also found that the blue-purple tint in the Irish shade makes teeth look a little bit brighter, which is a huge plus!
This a such a sweet set. It is priced at only $28 for the four shades. Although the tubes are on the small side, but since the gloss doesn’t need to be reapplied all of the time, they tend to last. I’d say all of the colors are really on-trend for Spring and the set is a postively pretty treat.

Wow, Deidre! You know me–I’m never really enticed by lip glosses, but these look great! I’ll have to check them out. The no shimmer factor plus fresh blue undertones seals the deal for me! They remind me of a more affordable version of Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Reflect, which is one of the best and only lip glosses I use!
